Always know the weather report.
Sad is the gardener that loses 75 tomato plants to a late frost or the homesteader that loses 50 chicks to a heat wave.
You don’t have to watch the 6:00 news to know the weather report. We don’t own a television and for years we made a habit of calling the weather line of a local radio station. One simple phone call gave us a recorded message with current information and a three day forecast.
More recently, I’ve added a Weather Bug icon to the sidebar of my Windows desktop. One glance at the computer and I know the current conditions and if an alert has been posted. One click of the mouse and I have all the details.
The weather report can be found in the newspaper, on the airwaves or, at least, from the neighbor. Never be un-informed again.
Question #3: Have you ever lost crops to the weather?
Still keep warm:

No, we have not. We have had a few customers (back in southern NJ where we used to own a landscape contracting business) lose some annuals when they insisted that they be planted before frost danger was over. Not fun:)
ReplyDeleteBut for our home I always keep an eye on the weather and wait until I am sure it is safe.
Blessings:)
Karen
I never used to worry about the weather...all that changed after having children. It feels so much better to be informed and dressed properly! I've never lost crops to the weather...but we only have a small garden just for ourselves.
ReplyDeleteHey Kristen and Karen,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. We had hail this year. Lost A LOT. But, of course, hail is not predictable...nor can you do anything about it.
Come again,
Carol
No, I don't think I have due to frost, but I did have to replant one year because of an excessively wet spring. Not something I could control!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn. Makes me wonder what this spring will bring. We're expecting another 28 inches of snow this weekend!
ReplyDeleteHave a good one,
Carol
