Co-op Booklet Review and Giveaway

The Only Homeschool Co-op Booklet You Need To Start Your Very Own Best Co-op Ever! by Karen Lange is just that...the only booklet you'll ever need with all the instruction and advice you'll ever need on starting your own co-op.

A homeschooling mom for 16 years, Karen Lange spent many years as the founder and member of several co-ops. She and her husband homeschooled their three children from kindergarten through graduation.

The booklet begins by defining a homeschool learning co-op as "a group of families getting together for cooperative learning." Karen discusses the sizes of co-ops, having a statement of purpose, teaching and organizing, scheduling, finances, and more. With all this, she helps you to evaluate what would be best for your family.

In addition, she includes several sample projects and games, and a complete section of resources--online and otherwise.

Why would a family want to join a co-op? "The co-ops gave me the opportunity to brainstorm with other moms," Karen shares, "and offered support in subjects that I was reluctant to tackle at home." I concur. When we hosted a co-op in our home, I taught language arts, another mom taught science, and the other Virginia history. We each chose what we felt comfortable with.

One of my favorite quotes in this booklet is, "If you are feeling a little intimidated, relax. There are no set rules when it comes to starting a co-op. It doesn't have to be complicated, scheduled regularly, and strictly organized....The choice is yours; be as flexible as you like."

The same holds true with all of our homeschooling endeavors. And it just blesses my socks off to think that we can homeschool as God leads us; according to the needs, personalities, and interests of our children.

  3. Carol, I came over here from Karen's place. Fantastic review. I have homeschooled for many, many years. On the last one after finishing with our boys. And our girl is in the seventh grade.

    (We have six boys.)

I'd love to be entered. I'm a follower. We are having storms here in NC today. (Like we need that after the last one.) My internet is satellite so it will go in and out. But I plan to tweet and facebook. Do you want links?
